White’s ‘Switzerland’ – the Clare White gallery, Barnsley, 2010

An exhibition of White’s stunning watercolours of  Swiss landscapes. Clare attended school in Lucerne in the early 1920s and retained a fondness for the country that lasted her whole life. The pictures she painted around Grindelwald, showing the stunning Tower Glacier, remain among her best loved pictures.

St Ives Watercolourist Clare White – Thoresby Gallery, Nottinghamshire, 2009

This exhibition featured a large selection of White’s paintings from all over the world as well as fascinating displays of White’s sketch books, posters and memorabillia. It drew comparisons between the artist and Thoresby’s own Lady Manvers – Marie-Louise Pierrepont – herself a dedicated traveller, watercolourist and lady of Edwardian sensibilities.  Curators talks were given.

Hallo Sunshine II – the Clare White Gallery, Barnsley, 2009

This exhibition paid homage to the first, celebrated ‘Hallo Sunshine’ exhibition of Clare White’s Barbados paintings (1955 – 1970s) which was held at the Salthouse Gallery, St Ives in 1982. The original exhibition generated an enormous amount of interest in White’s work when the artist was in her eighties. Hallo Sunshine 2009 brought the colour and vibrancy of her Barbados paintings to whole new audience.

Introducing Clare White – the Clare White Gallery, Barnsley, 2008

The first major retrospective of Clare White’s work to be held at the gallery named in her honour by curator Andrew Pollard introduced a new and exciting body of work from the Clare White estate on to the art market.

Clare White: A Centenary Celebration – St Ives Arts Club, 2003

Clare White lived and painted in St Ives from 1949 until her death at the age of 93 in 1997. This exhibition returned a large collection of her work to the art colony and attracted the attention of close friends, old and new admirers and holiday art buyers. It was held in the St Ives Art Club, where White was the first female President in 1954.  The exhibition, with curator’s talks, marked the centenary of her birth in Sidmouth, Devon in 1903. And, the whole celebratory event was part of the successful St Ives September Festival.

Clare White (1903-97) – Walker Galleries, Harrogate, Autumn 2002

The Walker Galleries in Harrogate has special interest in Cornish art of the highest quality and hosted a successful exhibition of White’s work at its Crown Place gallery space in 2002. The open weekend in particular proved a fantastic opportunity to introduce White’s characterful work to a whole new, and discerning, audience.

Clare White: A Woman of the World – Rotherham Art Gallery, 2002

Clare White’s first solo show since her death in 1997 was held in the public art  gallery in Rotherham. The exhibition marked the starting point for a national tour of of her work.
