Sunny success in Sidmouth
The Clare White exhibition in Devon over Easter was a great success (March 29th to April 6th). Scores of people came along to see the paintings, leaf through the artist’s sketchbooks and find out more about the Sidmouth born artist. Sales were healthy and we made a host of new friends who were smitten with Clare’s vivid scenes of international travel, as well as meeting people who already own one of her pictures and who shared their memories of meeting her in St Ives in the 1980s.
Homecoming Devon exhibition: Easter 2013
We Are delighted to have fixed a date for our next show – at Kennaway House in Sidmouth next Easter (March 29th to April 6th, 2013). The exhibition is especially important for us as it will see Clare’s paintings on show in her birthplace for the very first time. We’ll provide many more details nearer to the time.
Thoresby exhibition opens with curators talk
Great start to the new exhibition at Thoresby Gallery, North Notts – When Two Ladies Went Travelling. Caroline Hughes, curator of the Countess Manvers collection of paintings, gave a joint talk with Andy about women painters to an enthusiastic crowd. The glorious weather helped make the launch a particularly enjoyable event. The exhibition runs until April 22nd, 2012.
Art Walk fitting climax at Orangery
The Wakefield Art Walk event on Wednesday this week (March 28th) provided a fantastic way to say goodbye to what has been an enjoyable couple of months at The Orangery. The Clare White exhibition has welcomed hundreds of visitors who have left some lovely comments in the visitors’ book. One lady even saw the show in the St Ives Times & Echo and made a visit! Hanging the new Wakefield exhibition
We had an enjoyable day hanging the latest Clare White show at the beautiful Orangery in Wakefield last week. The show runs from January 16th until March 28th and is open week days – see http://www.beam.uk.net/exhibitions/ for full details. There will be two exciting Wakefield Art Walk events during the show – on Wednesday Jan 25th and Wed March 28th (http://artwalk.org.uk/about/) – when visitors can tour the city’s plethora of arts venues through the evening, including The Hepworth gallery, Wakefield Theatre Royal and the Art Space studios. It would be great to catch up with you!
Goodbye . . . with a little help from our friends
Our last day turned out to be the hottest day of the year and the surprises didn’t stop there! Friends threw a farewell Clare White gallery party with champers and nibbles – a complete shock but a fantastic way to say goodbye. We would like to say a huge thank you to organisers Louise and Tracey for making it an emotional but happy end to an era. We will take with us four years of wonderful memories . . .
Clare White’s god-daughter visits the gallery
We welcomed a very special visitor to the gallery this week. Jane Bradford travelled up from Somerset to see the gallery which was named in honour of her beloved god-mother Clare White. Jane used to holiday with her ‘Aunty Clare’ in St Ives most years and has fond memories of her painting expeditions and general spirit of fun. Jane is seen holding a print of Clare’s, ‘Thatcher’s Rock, Torquay’.
Caroline’s tremendous textiles
Caroline John dazzled visitors with her textile skills at the latest of our Meet the Makers events at the gallery today. She lives in Hoyland, just up the road from Elsecar, and has years of experience in a variety of art and craft. Thanks for popping along Caroline.
Spell-binding display from Heather
Heather Dewick demonstrated her book binding skills at the gallery yesterday in the latest of our June ‘Meet The Maker’ sessions. Next week we welcome textile artist Caroline John.
Whittling and gouging at the gallery
Wonderful wood worker Sue Evans showed off her skills outside the gallery on Saturday. A leading automata maker, the Thurgloand based artist has exhibited widely and is a particular favourite of Clare White gallery customers.
