Talks for Local Groups
The following illustrated talks are available for local groups. They can be delivered informally or as after dinner speeches, at business networking meetings and so on.

Clare White (1903 – 1997) : Clare White lived in St Ives at the time of Barbara Hepworth,Bernard Leach and Ben Nicholson. She was an Edwardian lady with a passion for painting andapassion for travel. Hear her fascinating life-story and see her evocative paintings from around the world.

Women in Art : This illustrated talk tells the stories of some of the most significant women in the history of western art. Whether muse or lover; accomplished artist or business tycoon – each contributed to our artistic heritage.

The History of Art – A Short Guided Tour: Here is a rough guide to the development of art from medieval times to present day. Be guided along a timelime of famous and not-so-familiar artworks and look into the meaning and significance of each.

Black Diamonds – the Juicy Bits: Catherine Bailey’s excellent book is packed with incredible research and socio-political detail, but if you just want to focus on the trials and tribualtions fo the Fitzwilliam family and their spectacular decline, then this talk is for you. Bring along your own copy of the book if you have one.

School Outreach

The Clare White Gallery offers educational workshops/talks for schools.

The individual sessions are designed to cover key subjects in the art curriculum whether that is the life and work of a famous artist; analysis of a key art movement; or examination of a particular artistic process such as sculpture, use of colour, landscape or capturing the human form.

Andrew Pollard is an experienced senior lecturer in art history and has extensive experience working in schools through the government’s Creative Partnerships programme. He is also a father of two nine-year-old children.
